released 2011-11-22

Important:
  • Release version 2.3 of grandMA2 divorced values and effect values! Therefore older show files might not be 100% compatible. Therefore please check your show file with the new version before using it live!
  • If you would like to update your dimMA system from any version below 6.x please contact your MA-dealer or MA direct for any update information. Should you be using grandMA2 in connection to our dimMA solutions, please get in touch with us, since a console update will now require a NDP update and vice versa. We are happy to assist you.
  • The current versions of onPC and 3D require minimum Windows® XP with Service Pack 3 (Microsoft® .NET Framework (4.0) will be installed on your computer, if not already installed).

Release - Version 2.4.0.2

released 2011-09-08

New functions and features in detail

  • PreviewEdit
    • PreviewEdit mode is very similar to working in normal Live mode, but without any programmer actions or Store/Update actions affecting the output on stage.
    • What is the difference between EditBlind and PreviewEdit? EditBlind is only a second programmer not affecting the output at all. EditBlind will not show you any cue transitions or effects. Whilst PreviewEdit will start a preview playback which behaves like a normal playback beside the fact that there will be no output on stage. The advantage of using EditBlind is a particularly lower usage of performance resources compared to PreviewEdit.
    • Fixture- , channel- and stage- views as well as a 3D logged in with the same user are following the "Preview Edit". In "Preview Edit"-Mode the title bars in all views are kept in red. Sequence-, tracking- or content- sheets display a preview (and turn to the red title bar) only when either the Mode "Link Selected" together with Preview for the selected sequence - or the Mode "Link last Go" is enabled. When selecting the Mode "Not linked" a Preview is only displayed when an assigned Executor is called. 3D follows Preview only when enabled the option "Follow into Preview" (located inside 3D's tools menu).
    • When in sequence- or tracking sheet the title bar is displayed in red the previewed Cue is indicated by a red frame, too. In case the displayed sequence is identical with the selected sequence the current Cue (going Live) is indicated by a yellow frame. In Preview Mode the fixture- and channel- views mask all values but the content of the Preview Cue which are displayed in Cue colors. Tracked values coming from former Cues are displayed in magenta. Even a Cue involves several Parts initially the complete Cue is displayed. Using the Part Cue Encoder allows to highlight single Parts in Cue colors while all other Parts are displayed in magenta.
    • Hitting the Preview button will bring the Preview keyword into the command line and opens the Preview Encoder Bar.
    • How to enter Preview Mode:
      • PreviewPlease or softbutton Preview Selected will enter PreviewEdit mode for all parts of the CURRENT cue of the selected executor or the next cue if this executor is not active.
      • PreviewNext will enter PreviewEdit mode for all parts of the next cue of the current executor (Selected Executor in live mode, PreviewExecutor in PreviewEdit-mode)
      • PreviewPrevious will enter PreviewEdit mode for all parts of the previous cue
      • PreviewCue5 will enter PreviewEdit mode for all parts of cue 5 of the selected executor.
      • PreviewCue3executor3 will enter PreviewEdit mode for all parts of cue 3 of the executor 3.
    • Hitting the Preview button twice while in PreviewEdit mode will leave the PreviewEdit mode.
    • Hitting the Preview button twice while not in PreviewEdit mode will recall the PreviewEdit mode with the state it has been left before.
    • Keeping the Preview button pressed allows selecting more than one Executor. The Preview merge the result. Only the last selected will be displayed in Cue colors
    • Pushing and releasing the Preview button and than selecting an Executor resets all former Previews and displays just the one selected in Cue colors
    • OFFPreview turns off the Preview for the last chosen Executor and switches back to Live Mode
    • ESC switches back to Live Mode without turning off the Preview Playbacks
    • Hitting a playback command button like Go+ or Top and the Preview button afterwards while in PreviewEdit mode, will execute the referring command for the current previewed sequence with cue timing and follow cues.
    • Hitting Assign Time x Preview changes the fade time of the current previewed cue to x seconds.
    • New Preview Encoder Bar:
      • The new Preview Encoder Bar pops up every time the preview key is hit.
      • The buttons Preview Previous and Preview Next switch to the previous or next cue of the sequence which is currently previewed. If there is no previewed sequence the buttons will activate preview for the selected executor (without Cuetiming) .
      • The button Preview selected switches to the current cue of the selected sequence or, if not active, to the first cue of the selected sequence.
      • If AutoUpdate is activated, all changes will automatically update the currently previewed cue. A alternating flashing edit and update button will indicate this mode.
      • If Cue Only is activated in addition to AutoUpdate, the automated update will be done cue only.
      • If Keep Selection is active, the programmer will keep its selection, when entering the PreviewEdit mode.
      • If Keep Programmer is active, the content of the live programmer will be copied to the preview programmer when entering the PreviewEdit mode.
      • Using the left "Sequence" Encoder allows to scroll thru the sequence pool. While scrolling only the one in focus will be previewed while the former will be closed. Touching into the Seq. field above the encoder opens a window to select from all sequences. Again the former selected sequence will be closed.
Keep Programmer and AutoUpdate are not allowed to be activated at the same time. When activating one of these, the other will be turned off.

Keep Selection and Keep Programmer are only used, when entering the PreviewEdit mode. The preview programmer will never be copied to the live programmer.

It is not possible to use the blind hardkey while PreviewEdit mode is active.

    • Preview Playback button in the Off Menu
      • When the Preview Playback button is activated (located bottom left inside the Off Menu) only the enabled Preview Playbacks will be displayed. As usual single Playbacks can be switched off.
      • When Preview Playback is activated the Everything Off button only switches off Preview Playbacks. Live Playbacks will not be touched.
    • In Preview Mode Trigger Follow and Trigger Times will not be executed except playback commands like > GO PreviewExecutor < are used.
    • In Preview Mode Cue commands (CMD) will not be executed.
    • Unless re-entering the saved state of Preview, Preview Mode uses the world, which has been used live last. Changing the world while in Preview Mode will not change the live world when leaving the Preview Mode.
  • "Default value" button in the calculator has been replaced by a Default link button: This button will basically work as a preset and provide a link to the fixture default values, which can be changed in the setup or when editing the fixture. To get the hard default values like in earlier versions, you have to extract (refer to extract in the help) the default link afterwards.

The "Default Link" values are marked by bracketed values in all sheets.

  • Cue Zero

Cue Zero is an option in the sequence executor Assign Menu. Cue Zero is an automatically created cue containing a link to default values of attributes. Cue Zero cannot be modified manually. A Cuelist with activated Cue Zero will start at the first cue after Cue Zero. This cue provides default values when starting the sequence and provides the missing default data when moving or copying cues.

    • Cue Zero Off: Cue Zero will not be created and Cue zero will be deleted Cue Only.
    • Cue Zero On: Cue Zero will be created and will contain default values for all attributes used by this sequence.
    • Cue Zero Dimmers Only: Cue Zero will be created and will contain default values for dimmer attributes only.
    • Cue Zero All: Cue Zero will be created and will contain default values for all attributes of fixtures that have any of its attributes stored in the sequence.

    • In addition to the default value reference, the cue zero will also include a stomp for every attribute that is using an effect in that sequence.
    • "Cue Zero extract" will extract the default link and store hard values of the current fixture defaults into Cue Zero.
    • Switching off "Release First Step" is not possible in combination with cue zero on or cue zero all.

There will be NO "CUE ZERO" in a "Non-Tracking-sequence"

Sequences with only one CUE will NOT have a "CUE ZERO"

The "CUE ZERO" cannot be selected nor edited nor updated.

  • Temporary Pool Views
    • can be accessed via macro/commandline "menu object". e.g. "menu View" or via hardkeys. Both hardkeys have to be pressed at the same time. Possible pools are:
      • List+View
      • List+Effect
      • List+Page
      • List+Macro
      • List+sequence
      • List+Group
    • ESC closes the view

  • Template show file folder:

This folder is a read only folder. Show files cannot be stored inside this folder from the consoles user interface. Users can save show files in this folder only by using a FTP connection. When connected to the console using a FTP client, the template show file folder can be found at /ma/templateshows. The purpose of this new folder is to allow the user to create his own show file templates and protect them against any overwriting. Even a software update will not overwrite this folder. The only exception is a full install.

As the new template folder is the third tab in the backup menu, the drive number of backup servers and usb stick connected to the console will be increased by one. Macros using commands like "selectdrive 3" or "sd 3" need to be corrected respectively.

Using this option allows to limit an attribute value by applying a linear or inverse limitation controlled by the attribute dimmer. Example: Provided that a fan attribute has a default of 80% and is linear linked to a dimmer attribute. As a result the fan will be controlled in accordance to the dimmer value. If the dimmer value is at 100% the fan will run at 80%. If the dimmer is at 50% the fan will run at 40%. If the fan attribute and the dimmer value are inverse linked the fan would run at 100% when the dimmer value is 0. When the dimmer is set to 100% the fan value would be 80%.
  • Using the command "List Agenda" lists all entries of the agenda in the command view (similar to the options menu agenda view).
  • By using the command "Assign function At Fader x.x.x" "Assign function At Executor x.x.x" it is possible to assign functions e.g. master or rate to executor faders without using the assign menu.
  • The command "List Executor x.y" lists all settings from the assign menu of one executor in the command view which are not directly assigned in the sequence. It is possible to change those settings via the command line (e.g. by using macros). Example: The command "assign Executor 1.1 /cmdDisable=1" suppresses the execution of Cue commands (CMD).
  • New option for Cue colors (channel and fixture sheet options): Off/On/My Executor

Appendix

The command "store /remove" or pressing [store][cue][2] and the select [remove] in the pop-up will remove the whole attribute with all (!!) its layers for fixtures having any value or effect layer of this attribute active in programmer. It can be filtered to only remove values, value timings or effects by using the buttons in the stored encoder bar. To remove only specific layers, for example only individual effect fade, the operator needs to open the calculator for these layers and select "remove" in the calculator. Afterwards the operator needs to update the cue, or has to use store /merge to remove the specific layers.
Selecting multiple fixtures with a lasso in the layout view is respecting the snap grid settings to interpolate small position differences of fixture icons. The selection order will always be made inside of one snap grid cell first, afterwards line by line in the direction of the lasso movement.

Known Limitations

  • Show file Conversion from Version 2.2 and earlier:The speed of an selective effect, stored in a cue, will not be brought correct into programmer, if the cue gets edited and the default speed of the effect in the pool is not 60 BMP.
  • ASCII show import supports Strand ASCII show files only.
